The movie was based on the Coen brothers 1996 film of exactly the same title. Tolman was praised for her portrayal as Minnesota the policeman Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair said it was clear that Tolman, "calmly" and "assuredly" took over the show. For her role, she received the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Movie/Miniseries and received Best Actress nominations at the Emmy Awards and for the Golden Globes.
